Engineered for Resilience Withstanding Hurricane Conditions
We are proud to share that our 1MW floating solar array in Apollo Beach, Florida, successfully withstood the impact of Hurricane Milton which unleashed its fury on October 9, 2024. This demonstrates the exceptional performance and durability of our floating solar solutions under extreme conditions.
Hurricane Milton: A True Test of Strength
- Wind Conditions: Within the Tampa Bay area, wind gusts were recorded at 120mph.
- Environmental Impact: Significant damage was reported across the area, including toppled power lines, shattered rooftop solar panels, and compromised land-based systems. Estimated damage from Hurricane Milton currently stands at over $20B in insured losses.
- Performance Result: Our floating solar array stood resilient, fully operational post-storm with no structural damage.
Superior Design: Built to Last
Unlike competitors’ systems that rely on plastic connections, our floating solar technology utilizes high-quality, long-lasting materials for superior durability and longevity.
- High-Strength Aluminum Framework: Engineered to handle extreme stress without warping or bending.
- Stainless Steel Connections: Corrosion-resistant and capable of maintaining integrity under high wind and wave loads.
- Dynamic Mooring System: AccuSolar worked with Seaflex on the mooring and anchoring design for this project, which performed as expected with extreme wave action during high wind.
Our original design included the ability to lower the modules to a lay flat position during storm events, however the safety stow was not deployed in this case, furthering proof of the structural durability of the AccuSolar system. Even in the harshest environments, the performance difference was clear during Hurricane Milton.
The system exhibited zero post-storm maintenance needs. No repairs were required after the storm, showcasing operational efficiency and minimizing downtime.
